Keep driving by here - no need to stop. Went here for dinner and the place was deserted. One waiter working here which was plenty. Food was decent but nothing special. Service was average at best. A Mexican restaurant playing soft hits from the 70's didn't match. I ordered the Chile Verde plate and the meat was over cooked and hard not to mention the pieces were very small. The Verde sauce wasn't green or that amazing either.

Average Mexican food nothing great! The salsa was kinda bland and the didn't provide many chips, the bean tasted like there where out of a can and the tortillas were not the best.

Beans from a can, reused uneatten chips recycled to abother table. Food was nothing to brag about... I don't know how this place has been in business for as long as it has.

Ever since Marcelino arrived in the mid 1980s, Tio's has been a favorite of our family. The new owners have stayed true to the original menu, even the fried ice cream I would get 20+ years ago if I had "earned it". Restaurants that stay in business for 30 years in the same location is EXTREMELY RARE.

I never noticed this place before so I decided to drop in and get a to go order. It was ready in less than 5 minutes. While I waited I checked out the Decor. Standard but OLD and Dated. But with most Mexican Restaurants in the Salt Lake Area that is standard fare. I always get a Chili Rellenos to compare my food at every establishment. IT was good nothing to write home about. The stem was still on it. Which WHY do they do that. No one eats it. So it is a waste of plate space. The beans were made with lard and had flavor and I appreciate that. I did not have the rice because I never eat rice. I will probably go back. But only if I am not in the mood to drive to my favorite place.

I love Mexican food, and when I try a new place I always try their chile verde burrito to use as a comparison. I've been here four times now and can't stop eating their chile verde burrito! Seriously one of the best in Utah. Very authentic. The pork never has any fat on it (I hate it when someone leaves a chunk of fat on their pork and buries it in the burrito. Yuck!). The chile verde sauce is the perfect spiciness. Just - yummmm. I have to try their other stuff next time, but awesome chile verde burritos.

Not the best but also not bad. I have had better mexican food, but none the less pretty good. I really like the fresh slices of avocado on top of the chimi and the chips and salsa are tasty. I hear the carnitas is great and will be going back to try it. Its biggest down fall is the service. Pretty slow but they did just open so hopefully that will improve.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
